A Vacuum Circuit Breaker (abbreviated as VCB) is an electrical switching device designed to open and close electrical circuits in a vacuum. It uses a vacuum as the arc extinguishing medium, meaning that when the switch contacts are separated, the current is interrupted in a vacuum, which prevents the formation of an electric arc. Vacuum circuit breakers are typically used in medium and high voltage applications such as distribution systems and power plants.
Types of Vacuum Circuit Breakers
Vacuum circuit breakers are classified according to voltage class: 6–10 kV devices, 35 kV devices.
These switches have three poles, each containing a chamber and a contact prestressing unit (traction) and a spring drive.

One of the advantages of stationary vacuum circuit breakers is their increased insulation capacity and the ability to operate at very high temperatures (from - 40 °C to + 40 °C, the lowest temperature limit is -60 °C).
Fixed switches have a rigid design and are intended for permanent use in fixed places, for example, special racks or cabinets. This allows them to provide a higher level of reliability and a long service life - more than 30 years.
Withdrawable devices are used in work with complete distribution devices. When working with withdrawable circuit breakers, it is possible to replace it without disconnecting the entire switchgear.
Vacuum circuit breakers are used in a variety of applications: for switching electric motors, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, as well as for other processes where high power switching is required.
There are also vacuum load switches. They are used in energy systems such as hydroelectric power plants, nuclear power plants and other energy industry facilities.
A vacuum load switch consists of contacts located in a vacuum chamber, which is filled with high-vacuum gas. When the switch is turned on, the contacts connect, allowing electrical current to flow through the circuit. When the load break switch is open, the contacts are disconnected, providing safety and protection to the electrical system.
